….an engraved dish given to Vera Breed, who was a landscape designer, a Wilton Garden Club member for 35 years and President of the club twice. The dish was given to her as a goodbye gift when Vera left Wilton to retire with her husband, Nelson Breed. After Vera’s Passing, Nelson married into the Mannix Family and the dish was eventually passed on to Ann Margaret, who then donated it to the club.

Marybeth Wheeler Memorial Scholarship Award…a certificate and monetary award presented annually at the Academic Awards Assembly to a Wilton High School graduating senior who has shown an interest and achievement in nature, horticulture, botany, or ecology. The award honors the memory of long-time member, Marybeth Wheeler, who was a dedicated conservationist with special interest in preserving and propagating native flora. She was a leader in many state and national organizations, protecting and preserving our fragile environment.

2023 – Tribute Award in Conservation – Jackie Algon for her many outstanding contributions over the past 11 years, both to the club and the greater Wilton community. She has been a Conservation Committee Co-Chair, as well as serving on the Town of Wilton Conservation Commission. She led the Town Tree Committee and is a founding member of the Pollinator Pathway. Jackie led the Friends of Kent Pond project, working with the Wilton Department of Environmental Affairs and CT DEEP, to raise over $6K to stock the pond with Grass Carp to eat the invasive plants. The result is a return of wildlife including nesting swans, duck and geese. These are just a few of her accomplishments. She is a tireless advocate for all of our local conservation organizations, and always shares her knowledge through teaching classes, podcasting and writing articles on the topic.

This award was presented to the Wilton Garden Club for all of the civic, environmental and conservation programs the club engages in to better our community.
2023 – Club Certificates of Appreciation – Erica Buse and Kathy Rosenbaum, who became active members in 2021 and 2022 respectively, and took on the role of Membership Chairs. They have revamped the membership program and developed a process where applicants clearly understand the goals and expectations of the club, while at the same time making interested individuals feel welcome.
