Marybeth Wheeler Memorial Scholarship Award…a certificate and monetary award presented annually at the Academic Awards Assembly to a Wilton High School graduating senior who has shown an interest and achievement in nature, horticulture, botany, or ecology. The award honors the memory of long-time member, Marybeth Wheeler, who was a dedicated conservationist with special interest in preserving and propagating native flora. 2023- Tribute Award in Garden Therapy, awarded to Mary Otocka, for her leadership and dedication in growing the Garden Therapy program for senior citizens from 6 or 7 participants to 24. The program is so popular, that the Town of Wilton Senior Center has offered to pay 100% of the expenses going forward!

1993 – Pauline B. Tyler Award, for excellence in promoting conservation and/or legislation. Conservation Committee for Ferns & Flowering Plants of Wilton.

2016 – Environmental, Concerns & Conservation Certificate, to the Club’s Conservation Committee for their efforts in co-sponsoring the “Walk and Talk” series of lectures & guided hikes that promote the appreciation of the town’s open spaces.

2016 – Pauline B. Tyler Award, for excellence in promoting conservation or legislation, awarded to the Club’s Conservation Committee, for their work with Yale’s Peabody Museum Herbarium, in digitizing the images of over 1,200 preserved plant specimens and recording the data for the Marybeth Wheeler Herbarium.

2019 – Pauline B. Tyler Award, Environmental Concerns and Conservation- Jackie Algon- for unwavering support of conservation related issues, Town of Wilton Tree Committee, Wilton Conservation Commission & Wilton Go Green.

2019 – Certificate of Achievement – Elizabeth Craig – participation in all aspects of the Pollinator Pathway; Chairs the Inland Wetland Commission and Zero Waste Fair; active member of Conservation Committee and Wilton Go Green

2021 – Pauline B. Tyler Award, for outstanding work in Environmental Concerns and Conservation, presented to Anne Djupedal Gura and Wayne Gura, for the beautiful note cards they created from the club’s Marybeth Wheeler and Anna E. Carpenter Herbaria.

2023 – Tribute Award in Conservation – Jackie Algon for her many outstanding contributions over the past 11 years, both to the club and the greater Wilton community.  She has been a Conservation Committee Co-Chair, as well as serving on the Town of Wilton Conservation Commission. She led the Town Tree Committee and is a founding member of the Pollinator Pathway. Jackie led the Friends of Kent Pond project, working with the Wilton Department of Environmental Affairs and CT DEEP, to raise over $6K to stock the pond with Grass Carp to eat the invasive plants. The result is a return of wildlife including nesting swans, duck and geese. These are just a few of her accomplishments. She is a tireless advocate for all of our local conservation organizations, and always shares her knowledge through teaching classes, podcasting and writing articles on the topic.

2023 – Club Certificate of Achievement – Environmental Concerns –  awarded to the Conservation Committee, led by Wayne Guru and Anne, for their work in growing native perennials from seed for WGC use.

HISTORIC, MEMORIAL & PUBLIC GARDENS AWARDS

2016 – Certificate of Achievement to the Club’s Conservation Committee for their continued efforts with the Wilton Historical Society to renovate and care for the Colonial Herb Garden.

2017  Certificate of Individual Achievement, Tina Duncan, for leadership in promoting public awareness of the environment through the “Go Green” project, the “How Green Could Wilton Be?” symposium, the Norwalk Tree Festival, and the replacement of trees in Schenck’s Island Park.

CIVIC DEVELOPMENT AWARDS

1991 – Award of Excellence, for work with local organizations in construction and maintenance of island beds at the junction of Routes 7 and 33.

1992 – Civic Development Citation to a club with sixty or more members. “Keep Wilton Beautiful” campaign.

2007 – Community Award for Wilton’s Wondrous Trees

2016 – Civics Creativity Award, for an unusual or outstanding and creative project in the area of civic responsibility, awarded to the Club’s Civics Committee for its continued focus on civic beautification, especially its work at Horseshoe Pond, the Post Office, Veterans’ Memorial Green, Merwin Meadows, Town of Wilton signs, Hanging Flower Baskets, and Holiday wreaths and donated centerpieces

2017 – Lee Bauerfeld Beautification Award for an outstanding civic project in the community in recognition of our Club’s excellent work redesigning and installing three new gardens to grace the Veteran’s Memorial Green, located in the center of town.

2017 – Certificate of Individual Achievement, Linda Schmidt for leadership in the WGC year-round preparations for an extensive holiday outreach program to families in need and for the elderly.

2018 – Certificate of Individual Achievement, Suzanne Knutson for her dedication to her community’s beautification and her excellence in overseeing the plethora of civics projects that her club takes part in each year.

2019 Award of Honor – maintaining a record of exceptional achievement, for over a period of 5 years, in upholding the aims and purposes of the Federation. Award was accepted by Civics chairs Suzanne Knutson and Linda Schmidt.

2019 Civic Development Award of Excellence – for many civic projects, beautification of downtown by raising funds and revitalizing flowering baskets and seasonal displays on light poles.

2020 – Civic Development Tribute Award, presented for outstanding contributions in the area of Civic Development, awarded to: Suzanne Knutson, for years of civic beautification efforts in Wilton.

2021 – Civic Development Award of Excellence, presented to Wilton Garden Club for their activities celebrating their 100th Anniversary, including planting a “Daffodil Mile,” hosting a “Daffodil Festival” and promoting all the events through creative social media posts.

2020 – Special Certificate, for unusual projects, which do not fit under any other category and are the equivalent of a top award, awarded to: Wilton Garden Club, for their efforts using, Zoom and Social Media to keep their members connected and active during the Covid-19 quarantine.

2021 – Award of Honor: Wilton Garden Club,  for maintaining a record of exceptional achievement in upholding the aims and purposes of The Federation over the last 5 years.

2022 – Lovely Garden Award, awarded posthumously to Sandi Blaze for her love of gardening.

2022 – Lucille Schavoir Award, established in 1978, this award is presented to a Club for outstanding garden club work during the awards year. It is the highest award presented to a club. This award was presented to the Wilton Garden Club for all of the civic, environmental and conservation programs the club engages in to better our community.

2023 – Club Certificates of Appreciation – Erica Buse and Kathy Rosenbaum, who became active members in 2021 and 2022 respectively, and took on the role of Membership Chairs.  They have revamped the membership program and developed a process where applicants clearly understand the goals and expectations of the club, while at the same time making interested individuals feel welcome.

2023 – Good Deed Citation – Maya Rodriguez and Dana Wolfson, for creating over 100 personalized, member name tags using watercolors to paint various flowers and plants. These beautiful name tags will be used for many years to come and make both new and longtime members feel welcomed.
